Chickens in London

27 APR - 12:00 - 12:3028 APR - 12:00 - 12:3029 APR - 14:00 - 14:3030 APR - 14:00 - 14:30
This year, Sara Ward celebrates ten years of chicken keeping on her urban smallholding, Hen Corner. Come and meet some of her chickens and discover how easy it is to keep a small flock in a city back garden. Over recent years Sara Ward and her family have transformed their Victorian terrace house into an urban smallholding, Hen Corner, allowing them to have the best of both worlds. Nestled in West London, they are living the good life complete with 16 hens, two colonies of honey bees, a fruitful kitchen garden and a micro bakery which is making 40-50 loaves of bread each Friday along with hundreds of sticky buns, cakes and savoury treats. Whilst Sara and the family continue to expand their hands-on skills, they train and encourage others through their schools programmes and series of courses that are run from Hen Corner throughout the year. Be it jam making, wood carving, bee keeping or bread baking, there’s always something new that we can learn.

A Guide to Indoor Gardening by Sophie Lee of geo-fleur

29 APR - 12:00 - 12:30
Sophie Lee of geo-fleur demonstrates how to plant a closed terrarium and how to create a Kokedama (a Japanese hanging moss ball). As she works, she is happy to take all of your questions about the best house plants for you and how to look after them. Sophie Lee grew up green-fingered – her mum is a florist and whilst studying Fine Art at university, always craved more greenery in her urban London home. When one of Sophie’s friends got married, she wanted something a bit different from traditional wedding flowers, so Sophie planted her up a terrarium to carry down the aisle. The interest in her plant projects grew from there and in October 2014 she started geo-fleur, a studio that specializes in indoor greenery, with handmade ceramic planters, unusual weird indoor plants and Scandinavian homeware.
