Simone Micallef started her own workshop in Muswell Hill with the money she won in a Pan European competition. Simone designs and makes statement piece necklaces for the woman.

How did it all start?

Art evening classes in many disciplines, homing in on one.

What inspires you?

I love colour and the role it plays in bringing out our own natural beauty when we choose the right ones for us.

What is your creation process?

I study the shape, colour and texture of the natural stones and carry on from there to create one off pieces in sympathy with the stones and to enhance their own individuality and beauty. The final touch is to find the right person for it where the piece enhances the woman’s own natural beauty.

What is your next project

A highly textured silver piece to compliment some fossilized stones into a necklace.

What are your plans for the next 12 months?

To continue in this way exhibiting at shows to find good homes for my pieces and finding the right person for each one.

Your three top tips for crafters and makers

  1. Make what you love from the heart and it will find a home.
  2. Be true to yourself.
  3. Always do your best and look after your customers as you would a friend.
